Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICTTEN306 - Commission an electronic unit

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare to commission electronic unit

  1. Prepare for work following work health and safety (WHS) requirements
  2. Organise resources based on existing and potential site hazards
  3. Notify customer or network operations personnel to gain site access and network specifications
  4. Determine the type and complexity of electronic unit from specifications
  5. Verify installed electronic unit and associated cabling conform to specifications
  6. Establish commissioning dates and confirm with all parties
  7. Determine commissioning parameters according to specification, and establish planned outage if required
  8. Obtain test equipment and check suitability and calibration status
  9. 1.9 Produce a preliminary commissioning plan according to manufacturer's instructions and enterprise guidelines for discussion with customer
  10. Inform affected customers of impending action and likely timing and impact of the work

explain electrical and/or optical properties to be measured

identify common networking equipment

outline legislation and licensing requirements surrounding installation of telecommunications equipment

summarise network operation procedures

explain power requirements and electrical safety

describe test equipment types

outline transmission type and signals that may be encountered.
